Driven by this holistic vision, Shuman launched his career at the turn of the millennium in 2000. Beginning with Karukaj, his journey progressed through Craft Route, Bougainvillea Interior Design, and Artism Furniture. This path has culminated in his newest groundbreaking venture: India’s first-ever Interior Design Cafe. Through this space, he aims to educate and enlighten
clients on the science, philosophy, and aesthetics behind exceptional interior design.

Shuman maintains a versatile presence across diverse creative genres, including poetry, literature, design, and filmmaking. His innovative Interior Design Cafe – a first for both Eastern India and the nation at large – spans an impressive 8,000 square feet. Within this space, Shuman and the Artism team demystify interior design for their clients by involving them firsthand in material selection, design theory, design history, and practical execution.

Driven by an enviable work ethic, Shuman introduces fresh designs and new product lines every single week. He personally develops prototypes, transforming raw concepts into finished, high-quality functional pieces – from chairs and display racks to corner tables, sofa sets, credenzas, and end tables.

Shuman’s creative talents extend well beyond design; he is also a seasoned performer. In his early years, he excelled as a quiz master and master of ceremonies (MC). Today, he brings his original poetry to the stage, collaborating with classical exponent Drithi Chatterjee and performing alongside live painting and sculpture demonstrations by acclaimed artists Hiron Mitra and Asish Ghosh.

Over the past decade, Shuman has built a definitive lifestyle brand called Arttism—a name born from his core philosophy: Art-ism. He believes that art should rule the world through a shared exchange of ideas. Embracing bold expression, he confidently notes that “how you disagree shows your pedigree,” celebrating the art of constructive defiance.
Ultimately, Shuman is focused on streamlining his lifelong dreams into tangible realities. His focus remains fixed on expanding the Interior Design Cafe concept, the Art Cafe, the Live Cafe, the Arttism Event and Pop-up Auditorium, and his design school, the Arttism Art and Design Academy.
Defined by his warmth and approachable nature, Shuman balances rigorous, high-end design with deep, friendly mentorship for his junior colleagues, assistants, and students. He loves music, he loves people, and he loves the world. Above all, he believes in art and the deeply human relationship between a designer and their client.
